How Do You Use A VPN Service?

by webdefenseadmin

A Virtual Private Network, aka VPN, keeps you safe and anonymous online!

Using a VPN service is actually quite simple! It may sound or look confusing and intimidating, but it truly is not!

First, you have to find a VPN that works for you! There are many VPN services out there, some quite repeatable and some not so much! Here are Web Defense, we use ExpressVPN and we could not be happier with the service!

Once you find a VPN service that works for you, you simply install the software on the device in which you going to use the VPN on. (most VPN services allow you use one subscription across unlimited platforms). Once installed, you will go through the setup process and then voila!

The next steps are as simple as clicking a button or two!

Once your VPN software is all set up, simply open up the server list and choose a server to connect to. Once connected, you are free to browse the internet and go on with your business! Your IP is now hidden and all personal information is hidden as well! Your online activities can no longer be traced.

If someone was to attempt to look up your IP address while browsing via a VPN, they would simply see the IP address of the server in which you connected to.

For example: You could live in Florida, but connect to a VPN server in New Mexico. While connected to that VPN server, your IP address will show that you are located in New Mexico, not where you are physically at, in Florida. Pretty neat huh?

There are a ton of reasons as to why you may want to use a VPN

From keeping your information private while on a public network, to streaming content that isn’t available in your area. these are just a few reasons as to why someone would want to use a VPN.

VPN’s are often used by those who download a lot of content using P2P platforms, also known as ‘torrenting’. This keeps their identity private while sharing and downloading content via the person to person platform.

Access content from anywhere in the world, even if it is restricted in the region in which you are in.

Lets say that you are from America and you travelled to Spain for vacation. While you are there you want to watch a little Netflix, however, US based Netflix is not available in Spain. With a VPN, you are able to connect to a United States server and your IP address will now show that you are in the US. Hence, allowing you to log into your US based Netflix account and binge what anything you want!

But again, most VPN usage comes right down to privacy! You should be able to surf the web and not be tracked or traced! Your online experience should be your online experience and yours alone.
